Monkey Business

["A near scratch, or touch, from a monkey, would cause the victim to contract the drastic disease "]

WHERE ELSE CAN I WATCH THIS EPISODE?
Download: Hey Arnold! Torrent file (Season 1-5 You'll need a torrent client program to download, like Bittorrent, but it's worth it)
Buy: Amazon.com / I-tunes

The questions:

1) Have you ever believed you had a disease after someone told you about it, but it was all in your head?

2) What would you do if you were in Helga's shoes?

3) I hadn't seen the episode in a very long time, and back then it was a nice episode but not very special.. But now, it's so much better! Helga's dream touched me!
Do you feel the same way?

4) Any other thoughts?

REMINDER: You don't have to just answer the questions! Seriously, SAY ANYTHING YOU WANT. And respond to other people to keep the conversation flowing. Big Grin

Tomorrow:Big Caesar (3/27)

NEXT WEEK: The April Fools Special!! Don't miss it! (4/1 aka April Fools Day)

Oh man, I totally forgot about this episode. I remember shortly after watching this I went on vacation to Washington DC, and after visiting the Zoo on the ride back home, my legs developed some sort of irritation, they got all red and bumpy and itched like crazy. I didn't think I had a Monkey Disease, but I thought I was allergic to sunshine. Turns out it was just a rash from brushing up against some ivy.

BUT AT THE TIME I was afraid I could never go in the sun again. XD

1) Oddly enough, that hasn't happened to me. I tend to read a lot, and plus for the past two semesters up at university, one of my roommates was a Health Education major and basically knew what all the symptoms were to any major and minor illness. She was always shooting them off (I'll never forget her methods for remembering cancer symptoms through using the word "Caution"), and did so more and more while she was studying for the Praxis. So... unless I develop any of the obvious symptoms for an illness, I don't think I'll have that problem. Big Grin

2) If I were in Helga shoes, in the words of Queen, I would "Keep calm and carry on." Also, when looking at books, I'd look at the title more carefully and actually made sure I understood what it meant. XD

3) I really liked the dream Helga had. It was sad, but it was such a great introspection on her and why she won't tell Arnold she loves him. It shows that Helga feels that if she were to tell him how she truly felt, that would would reject her and find her repulsive. As a result, Helga doesn't tell Arnold anything because she fears his rejection and fears that he wouldn't want to be around her because of it.

I also liked the dream because it was sort of like a period piece. It liked the ties it had to 19th century England. I think it would've been cool if we saw Arnold wearing period piece clothing in the dream too and if there were more ties to the time period.

1) Have you ever believed you had a disease after someone told you about it, but it was all in your head?

I don't think so, probably not. I'll have to get back on this one. xD

2) What would you do if you were in Helga's shoes?

Bit by a monkey and probably facing death? I don't know, I guess I'd be kind of scared. Okay, really scared. Death really scares me. XD

3) I hadn't seen the episode in a very long time, and back then it was a nice episode but not very special.. But now, it's so much better! Helga's dream touched me!
Do you feel the same way?

Sniff. Yep, it was touching, and so, so sad. It just makes us realize how much she fears that he won't love her back, which is why she doesn't confess. Poor girl, it's one of those episodes that reminds us how bad we really feel for her.

4) Any other thoughts?
Monkeynucleosis was quite obviously parodied from mononucleosis. xD I noticed that when I saw the episode.

1) Have you ever believed you had a disease after someone told you about it, but it was all in your head?

No, but I remember one of my sisters believed the other one when she told her that when they take your tonsils out they have to cut your head off first. She wasn't worried about her head being taken off, she was just scared they'd sew it back on crooked.

2) What would you do if you were in Helga's shoes?
Same as she did, and researched it, but I also would have asked a lot of adults, especially the ones I thought were smart.

3) I hadn't seen the episode in a very long time, and back then it was a nice episode but not very special.. But now, it's so much better! Helga's dream touched me!

I remember being kinda freaked out about this episode the first time I saw it, but watching it again it feels a lot better, especially her semi-confession at the end.

4) Any other thoughts?

Monkey Helga....just looks plain weird. Very, very weird.

I actually thought Monkey Helga looked a lot like Human Helga. :/

And I agree with Nintendo, it was just too adorable when Arnold patter her arm and said, "You're okay too, Helga."

And the fact that her saying all this stuff about him being "Okay" was a semi-confession... too sweet.

"He thinks I'm okay! And I'm not a monkey!" :3 That was awesome.

The only thing I have to say about this episode is that I cannot watch it without thinking about this fic:

Thanks for that fic recommendation! It was a great introspection on Gerald.

I'll have to read through it again before I give it a proper review.
